Example routes
Easy – Northumberland
- Start & End Point: Thornhill Road car park, Ponteland
- Café Stop: Matfen Village Store and Coffee Shop
- Distance: 26 miles
- Elevation: 1000ft
- Link: https://www.plotaroute.com/route/1006553
- Route Notes: The car parking in Northumberland is free, but I’d advise sticking to the white parking bays as they’re the long stay ones. The route is generally on quiet, local, roads, but you will need to ride about half a mile on a slightly busier road at the end of the ride.
Medium – Holy Island
- Start & End Point: Wooler Tourist Information Centre, The Cheviot Centre, 12 Padgepool Place, Wooler NE71 6BL
- Café Stop: 1st Class Food, Holy Island
- Distance: 46 miles
- Elevation: 2600ft
- Link: https://www.plotaroute.com/route/1006716
- Route Notes: The tides here are very fast moving so, before you attempt this ride, please check the tide tables, here, to make sure that it will be safe for you to ride across the causeway in both directions. The car parking in Wooler is free, but it can occasionally get busy during the summertime, particularly at weekends. You will have to cross over the A1 as part of this route, but, so long as you’re patient, there are plenty of opportunities to safely make it from one side to the other. There are some glorious coastal views along this ride, so it’s worth taking a camera. And, finally, it’s advisable not to partake of too much of the local mead before the return trip as it’s fairly strong stuff!
Hard – Surrey Classics
- Start & End Point: Shere Car Park, Shere, Guildford GU5 9HF
- Café Stop: The Courtyard Cafe Bar, 11 High St, Dorking RH4 1AR
- Distance: 49 miles
- Elevation: 4800ft
- Link: https://www.plotaroute.com/route/1006600
- Route Notes: The car parking in Shere is free. This particular loop takes in some of the most iconic climbs in the South East of England: Combe Lane, White Downs, Box Hill, Coldharbour Lane, Leith hill and Barhatch Lane.
Very Hard – Shropshire Hills
- Start & End Point: Easthope Car Park, Easthope Road, Church Stretton, Shropshire, SY6 6BL
- Café Stops:
- Distance: 99 miles
- Elevation: 9700ft
- Link: https://www.plotaroute.com/route/1006572
- Route Notes: A big day out, taking in five of Simon Warren’s finest (The Burway, The Wrekin, Jigger’s Bank, Clee Hill and Asterton Bank) as well as a good few uncategorised ones. Despite the two café stops, pacing is really important on this one!
